The Policy Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) Steering Committee

The Information and Communications Technology Resources policy defines and governs the appropriate use of University of Sydney ICT resources. [effective date Dec 19, 2003]

This policy replaces the USydNet Conditions of Use and sets out the standards of acceptable, legal and ethical use expected of Users of University ICT Resources.

As all University ICT resource users, including students and staff, are subject to the conditions of use as set out in the policy, it is important that the existence of this policy be communicated.

A steering committee, established by the Information Technology Committee (ITC) of the University to oversee the  implementation of this policy, has been meeting since September 2003.

Semester 1 2004 will see the policy implemented in print, via personal mail, via posters and stickers on access lab and public access computers and via an electronic acknowledgement that staff and students have been made aware of the  policy.

When any one uses their Unikey (previously known as Extro) loginID and password to access secure IT services managed by the central information technology service teams, they will be presented with  an click through set of pages that requires an acknowledgement that  the  user is aware of the policy governing access to university information and communication resources.

All information and communication technology resources are governed by this policy. Not all resources are integrated yet, so the first implementation will only use the electronic acknowledgement for the integrated services using the Unikey login and password. All staff will receive by internal mail a copy of the policy. All new letters of offer will be accompanied by a copy of the policy. Students have received notification of it through their enrolment booklets and their Unikey account notification.
