Spatial Referencing

Collecting data on the spatial variation in soil and crop attributes requires accurate position determination in the field. Of the technologies available, the Global Positioning System (GPS) is the most widely used for this task at present. A range of accuracy (from metres to centimetres) is available across Australia.

A  reasonably detailed and easy to understand  expalanation of  the role and  operation of the GPS and other Global  Navigation Satellite Systems is available in the Educational Resources section
