In 2001, the University of Sydney, in collaboration with the Koori Centre and Perkins Family, launched an annual oration by a leading spokesperson within the field of Indigenous and non-Indigenous race relations. The Oration commemorates the life-long achievements of Dr Charles Perkins AO, the first Indigenous Australian graduate of the University of Sydney.
We are honoured to announce that this year's Oration will be delivered by Ms Marion Scrymgour (pictured), Member for Arafura in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.
Her topic for the Oration is ‘WHOSE NATIONAL EMERGENCY? Caboolture And Kirribilli? or Milikapiti And Mutitjulu?'
Ms Scrimgour is the first Indigenous woman to be a Minister in any government in Australia. She has an extensive and diverse portfolio including: Natural Resources, Environment and Heritage; Parks and Wildlife; Arts and Museums; Women's Policy; Senior Territorians and Young Territorians.

All members of the general public are cordially invited to join us for the 2007 Oration which will take place on Tuesday 23 October from 6pm in the Great Hall, in the Quadrangle of the University of Sydney.
Entertainment will be provided by indigenous students and alumni of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and light refreshments will be served.
