Cardiac Output measurement:

Coworkers

Professor Barry Baker, Department of Anaesthesia, The University of Sydney, Australia

Dr Martin Turner, Department of Anaesthesia, The University of Sydney, Australia

Aims

to develop continuous non-invasive cardiac output measurement system

Progress

A system for the determination of physiological parameters, such as oxygen consumption and cardiac output is being developed (see Turner et al, 2000).

Accidents in Anaesthesia:

Coworkers

Professor Barry Baker, Department of Anaesthesia, The University of Sydney, Australia

Mr Gábor Horváth, Department of General Computer Science, ELTE University of the Sciences, Budapest, Hungary

Aims

to study the systemic causes for accidents in anaesthesia, using the tools of teleonics.

to develop a quntitative methodology for the analysis of factors contributing to the development of risky situations in complex systems

Progress

A literature search is being conducted about accidents in complex situations. Teleonic principles are being examined in these contexts. (see Jaros and Baker,1995, Járos et al, 2001)
