1. Are University staff and students covered overseas?
 
Yes. Staff should use Spendvision for approval and travel arrangement. Students need to obtain written approval from their Faculty/School/Department.


2. If I travel to a destination of concern am I still insured?
 
DFAT and ISOS, as well as the University's travel website, should be consulted prior to travel. Approval must be provided by Faculty/School/Department. 
 

3. Is my University motor vehicle insured?
 
Yes, please refer to the 'motor vehicle' policy as to who is authorised to drive the vehicle. If you have a claim click here. For passenger injury click here.


4. Are external students, volunteers and honoraries insured when working at the University?
 
The University's insurance policy only covers staff and students click here. 


5. Are contractors covered by the University's Insurance?

No. General contractors, via Strategic Procurement, are to manage their own insurance.

 

6. Are Visiting Students or Academics from another University covered under the University's insurance?

No. The 'home' University is responsible for their own staff and students.

 

7. If I am overseas for University business and I have been injured, what should I do?

If you require urgent medical treatment, please call AIG Assist by reverse charge call to +61 2 9251 4298, quoting policy number 2200100532. When attending an International SOS clinic as directed by AIG Assist, treatment should be directly funded. If you are asked to pay at the clinic once having sought pre-approval from AIG Assist, you can use your University Corporate Card and the claim can then be settled upon return to the University using the normal claims process

8. I have lost baggage overseas, what do I do?

Please immediately check with your airliner to identify where baggage is and when it will be returned. If it takes more than 24 hours you are allowed to purchase essential items for the interim period. For more information click here.

9. What about property claims under $5000?
 
A $5,000 threshold applies to all property claims. That means that the management of claims with a value of $5,000 or less are the responsibility of the school or department and will not be funded from the University insurance fund. Audit and Risk Management will continue to manage the loss of private equipment by staff or students during the course of University business. These claims will continue to be managed along with University property and equipment claims which exceed $5,000 in value.
