Support Sydney

The University's relationship with benefactors is invaluable in helping us keep pace with technological advances and improving our reputation for academic excellence.

Privately sourced funds are vital to us in consolidating our position as a leading university, both in Australia and on the international stage.

Since the 1850s the University’s independent advancement has been fostered by the generosity of far-sighted individuals and companies. Great benefactors, such as those recognised in the Challis, McCaughey and Bosch chairs and in Fisher Library, made important developments in teaching and research possible.

Major gifts, such as the Livingston, Spurway and McGrath bequests, have enabled the University to enter new fields. More recent and equally significant have been the John Anderson, the Betty Garvin and the Renee Fauvette Erdos bequests. These have been used to fund research and equipment purchases, for scholarships and fellowships, library acquisitions and to improve the physical appearance of the University.
