Volunteer training
Note: Training sessions in 2010 are yet to be confirmed.
Topics include:
- Introduction to the Compass Project
- Teaching pedagogy
- Teaching in a multilingual classroom
- Techniques to assist children reading
- Early literacy
- Early mathematical concepts in primary school
- Volunteering with Compass
All training will be conducted at Baxters Lodge (Building F02) and dinner will be provided.
Volunteers are required for the following schools:
- Marrickville West Pubic School
- Wilkins Public School (Marrickville)
- Athelstane Public School
- Panania Public School
- Kogarah Public School
- Condell Park Public School
- Bexley Public School
To enroll in the training and participate in the project we ask volunteers to:
- Commit to a minimum of one semester on the project.
- Attend all training modules.
- Complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration Form and in some instances a Working with Children form.
Volunteers will receive:
- A certificate of participation signed by the DVC, Education.
- Remuneration for public transport fees to and from their school.
- In some instances when more than three volunteers go out to the same school where there are no train stations, a vehicle may be organized.
