The University of Sydney Confucius Institute, together with the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, is pleased to present an international symposium to be held in Sydney, Australia from Thursday 19 November to Friday 20 November 2009. The Symposium is supported by the Shanghai Municipal Government.


The theme for the Symposium is

Building Global Cities: Shanghai and Sydney

It will bring together scholars and practitioners from urban design, city planning, architecture, human geography, cultural studies, history, sociology, anthropology, literature and related disciplines from Australia and China to discuss, debate and analyse urban development in Shanghai and Sydney in the age of globalisation. The symposium aims to provide a forum for academics and professionals to exchange ideas in a way that will benefit the local and global communities of which we are a part.
