Symposium Theme
The processes of globalisation have accelerated urban development and brought about new questions and challenges. What approach can post-industrial cities take to boost their global visibility and compete for investment and visitors? What are the strategies to acquire sustainable advantages in a highly competitive global market? In what ways has urban branding contributed to the development of cities and nations? What are the possible affiliations to the mechanisms of city imagineering? And how do global and local constellations of power play out in reshaping cities in the era of globalisation?
This Symposium will explore these questions through interdisciplinary investigation, with a focus on Shanghai and Sydney, the two largest metropolitan cities of China and Australia respectively. You are invited to submit abstracts that address one of the following areas:
- Globalisation and City Imagineering
- Urban Redevelopment and Heritage Conservation
- Sustainable Urban Development
- Urban Spaces and Cultures
