Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine
Tuesday 23 February 2010, 6:30-8:30pm
Workshop Outline
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has proven effective in the treatment and prevention of illness and disease for thousands of years. It is commonly practiced and officially recognized and credentialed in China today, alongside Western biomedicine. Supported by the University's Herbal Medicines Research and Education Centre, this workshop will introduce participants to the culture, philosophy and cosmology of TCM. Whether in the form of herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chinese massage, or qigong (therapeutic bodily exercise and regulated breathing techniques), TCM is increasingly recognized by scientific, medical, pharmacological, and insurance agencies in the Western world. This one-day workshop will introduce you to the ancient culture, philosophy, and cosmology of TCM, and provide a survey of different aspects of TCM practice today.
