Roland DE KANTZOW BSc Agr, DipAgEcon Syd FAIAS | | Mr
Dennis de Kantzow's statement:
| Throughout
the 1960s farming at Mudgee (this continues in '09). I became President of the
local Agricultural Bureau, the Apex Club and a number of local committees promoting
better farming. Mid 1960s I began one of the first Farm Management Consulting
practices and provided regular commentaries for local, then national ABC rural,
programs. 1967 to US and Europe as a Rotary Group Study representative and
on returning began a substantial meat sheep breeding program aimed at improving
on the traditional First Cross system. 1970 I joined the Faculty of Agriculture
as Principal Tutor to assist budding Farm Management Consultants, later became
Senior Lecturer in Agronomy and Sub Dean for the Professional Experience component
of Faculty degrees. My particular concern was to provide all our students
with encouragement and opportunities to be involved in agriculture well beyond
the city so that they could gain confidence to apply their expertise wherever
it may be most needed. To this end I ran some 200 extensive excursions to inland
Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.
1970 to 2005 remained with the Faculty,
became at various times Hon Gen Sec of the formative Australian Farm Management
Society and the Australasian Remote Sensing Society, and President, Australian
Agronomy Society, NSW branch Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and
the University of Sydney Club. 1971 I was AIAS delegate to the first International
Farm Management Congress, Warwick, UK. Mid 1980s to the present, I am representative
for Agriculture on the now Alumni Council and am currently on the Alumni/Student
Engagement Committee. 1980 onwards I promoted some 25 professional conferences
for agriculture alumni and leading farmers sponsored by the Faculty, the AIAS
and various relevant organizations. 2009 together with the Alumni Relations
Office I arranged a reunion for graduates from 1956 to 1962, the first of a series
to be held in 2009 and 2010.

Louise RYAN BSc Agr (Hons 1) Syd | | Ms
Adrienne Ryan's statement:
| I am a postgraduate
research student at the University of Sydney. I have a genuine and long-running
interest in the Australian agriculture sector, cultivated by an upbringing on
a mixed farming property in rural New South Wales (Albury), and sustained through
my study and work experience within the industry. I completed a Bachelor of Science
in Agriculture (First Class Honors) in 2005 before travelling and working abroad.
The PhD project that I am currently working on examines the environmental impact
of industry in an important agricultural area. I have an aptitude for writing
and have been published in the Australian Journal of Soil Science. Additionally,
I write for a charitable trust newsletter and regularly edit the written work
of my peers. I am proficient in a range of analytical laboratory methods and also
in the use of computer programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. I am a good
communicator and quick to adapt; hence as an employee I require minimal supervision
and can use initiative. Currently I serve as the President, Faculty of Agriculture
Postgraduate Association (FAPA) at The University of Sydney. In this role I take
on the responsibility of representing the views, and critical issues of the postgraduate
student body of more than 100 students; and am practised at managing communications
with the Faculty Executive, and academic and general staff. To achieve the high
standards set by previous presidents I ensure that there are plenty of opportunities
for two-way dialogue in matters of common concern as well as social networking. Recently
I was selected as a Faculty Student Ambassador to promote courses and careers
to diverse target audiences such as prospective students and influencers - parents,
teachers, career advisers, business and industry partners and links. In addition,
I am on an informal advisory group of current students collaborating with the
Faculty Alumni Relations Officer on planning for the 2010 Agriculture Centenary.
I am committed to a balanced study / university life / extra-curricular model,
and believe in 'giving back' to my Faculty and University, and to outside organisations
with which I am affiliated (see below). My interest in nominating for the University
Alumni Council is to present a fresh, recent graduate viewpoint from agriculture
alumni, and to actively participate in the re-energising of alumni engagement
within our Faculty.

| Angela
BRADBURN BSc Agr (Hons 1) Syd | | Ms
Angela Bradburn's statement:
| Angela graduated
from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons
Class 1) in 2004. Angela then worked for a non-profit organisation (the Australian
Shareholders' Association) and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture,
Fisheries and Forestry, in policy and program roles in Biosecurity Australia,
the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service and the Rural Policy and Innovation
division.
In 2007, Angela joined Hassall and Associates, a professional
service company that works to improve the sustainable management of natural resources,
effectiveness of industry and government programs and sustainability and competitiveness
of rural and regional Australia. Hassal and Associates was established over 40
years ago by a group of graduates from the University of Sydney, and to this day
the current staff and company maintain a strong connection to the University.
Angela
now works as a Natural Resources and Agriculture consultant with GHD, who in 2008
purchased Hassall and Associates. Her work provides advice through strategic assessment
and evaluation for public and private sector clients in the agriculture and natural
resource management sectors. Angela remains passionate about rural and regional
Australia - an interest sparked during University, and particularly values the
opportunities her current role provides to talk face-to-face with people 'on the
ground' such as farmers and members of the community.
After particularly
valuing her time at the University of Sydney, and the intellectual, personal development
and social opportunities it provided, Angela is keen to invest energy back into
the University by becoming a member of the Alumni Council. She takes a keen interest
in the future of the University, and hopes to use the opportunity to provide input
based on understanding and experience in order to shape University experience
and facilitate sustainable networks between current and past students for the
ongoing benefit of the institution. ________________________________________
