Harley JACOBS BEc (Hons) Syd | | Mr
David Jacob's statement:
| In seeking nomination
for the Alumni Council, my objective is to strengthen the profile of the Faculty
in the wider community. I have been a member of the Alumni Working Group of the
Faculty of Business and Economics, which fosters closer relations with the Faculty's
Alumni. I am hopeful that this will lead to the establishment of the Faculty's
own Alumni Association. This would cater for the specific needs of this Alumni
subset as well as promote and drive the wider objective of the Alumni Council
and the Alumni Relations Office. Having over 30 years business and economics industry
experience, with a focus on Australia and Japan, I would also seek to promote
the development of stronger linkages between Alumni and students with this area
of interest. Currently I am CEO of a Japan market specialist, the Australia-Japan
Link, which I established in 1989. I am also a Director of Hunter Phillip Japan
Limited, a specialist Japan cross border advisory firm. Prior to 1989, I was Director
of the Australia-Japan Economic Institute (AJEI). This was one of only six offices
funded by the Government of Japan worldwide. After graduating from the University
of Sydney, I was a Consultant on industrial product markets with the then Philip
Shrapnel & Co in Sydney (now BIS Shrapnel). A member of the Australian Institute
of Company Directors, I am also current Vice President of the Australia Japan
Society of NSW Incorporated as well as a member of the Australia-Japan Business
Cooperation Committee.

| Ann
Minette CORLETT BEc Syd | | Mrs
Ann Corlett's statement:
| I have a Bachelor
of Economics from the University of Sydney. Subsequent to graduation and for much
of the 1980s, I worked in the mining industry where I was an executive director
of two publicly listed mining companies. During the decade of the '90s and until
2005 I was a volunteer Guide and, for a period, elected as Co-ordinator of Guides
at the Art Gallery of NSW. I also served as Association of Australian Guiding
Organisations representative. I have had a long time involvement and active
engagement in the Not for Profit sector as a volunteer. Some of my current roles
include Accredited Telephone Counsellor for Lifeline Australia and Court Supporter/Counsellor
for the Homicide Victims Support Group. I am Deputy Chair of the External
Advisory Committee of the Department of Government and International Relations
at this university. I am married and am the mother of four university graduates. One
of the key attributes of the health and prosperity of a university is the quality
and depth of its engagement with its alumni. Since the establishment of the Alumni
Council four years ago, the University of Sydney has demonstrated its commitment
to creatively and dynamically develop its relationship with this important stakeholder
group. Alumni need and deserve a voice - they now have one. My involvement
with, and commitment to the University of Sydney over a number of years has given
me the opportunity to understand and think about the University's engagement with
its stakeholders and, in particular with its alumni. I believe I can offer an
informed perspective on Alumni Relations and a commitment to helping develop strategies
that will enhance this relationship. We all can be inspired and strengthened
by connection with others. Alumni relationships and engagement with the
University can be intellectually stimulating, provide effective networking opportunities
and enrich our lives in so many ways. ________________________________________
