The University of Sydney Alumni Council

The University of Sydney Alumni Council was born 3 years ago out of the former Standing Committee of Convocation, as a vigorous representative forum for over 30 alumni chapters. With outstanding support from the Vice-Chancellor and his senior team and the Alumni Relations Office, we have achieved some significant successes:

A high level of communication, involvement and team spirit within and across our alumni chapters A commitment by the University to build a new alumni centre, the first of its kind in Australia The purchase of the Encompass electronic networking program to facilitate student mentoring and adjunct alumni involvement in teaching A strong voice in the governance of the University New-look alumni publications, and an increase in the quality and number of alumni events A broadening of the alumni awards program

In a very short time we have come to be regarded as one of the most active and inventive alumni networks in Australia. Congratulations and thanks are due to the Councillors, Chapters and staff who have worked hard to make this happen, under the guidance of the Immediate Past Council President, Dr Barry Catchlove.

I look forward to even more alumni becoming involved in this rewarding program, supporting reunions, mentoring students and volunteering, all of which will help our University achieve its vision of being one of the world's finest. I also look forward to meeting as many new alumni as possible at graduations and events throughout the year.
