The Advanced Science degree retains much of the flexibility of the Bachelor of Science degree. Advanced subjects cater to the needs of the best students; the material taught is demanding, but the results are extremely rewarding.
In the first year of the BSc (Advanced) you enrol in 48 credit points of junior subjects. Usually, 24 of these are studied at the advanced level.
In second year you normally select 48 credit points of intermediate subjects. At least 12 credit points of these must be studied at the advanced level.
In third year you must study 48 credit points of senior subjects; at least 24 credit points must be at the advanced level. The Honours program requires an additional year of study and research. You must meet minimum progression requirements to continue to study in the BSc (Advanced) degree.
The Sydney advantage
- 29 areas of study in one degree using just one UAC choice
- nominate your major now or later
- have your area of expertise printed on your testamur
Other ways to study advanced science
Advanced subjects are available to good students in many other programs including the BSc and Bachelor of Liberal Studies. The BSc (Advanced) and the BSc (Advanced Mathematics) may be combined with Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering and Law.
Talented Student Program
The top students in the Faculty of Science are invited to participate in the Talented Student Program (TSP). This program allows students to tailor their degree to suit their own interests, for example, by working on individual projects under the supervision of a mentor, attending special seminars or accelerating the completion of their degree.
In addition to the TSP, there are challenging Special Studies Programs in the Schools of Chemistry and Mathematics. Entry is by invitation and more information is available from the Chemistry and Mathematics websites:
