Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery Doctor of Philosophy is a research degree awarded for a thesis considered to be a substantially original contribution to the knowledge within the discipline.

The Doctor of Philosophy program in the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery provides an opportunity for intensive research training in a supportive and collaborative environment. Doctoral students engage with a community of research scholars to develop their expertise in their chosen field and to contribute to disciplinary knowledge in that area. With supervision, students undertake their own research project, and complete a significant thesis with a substantially original component. During the candidature students attend a range of workshops and other research activities and regularly contribute through seminar presentations and meetings to the intellectual life of the Faculty.

Course completion requirements

Some coursework may be required as part of the degree but in no case is it a major component. The length of the doctoral thesis would not be expected to exceed 80,000 words with a minimum length of candidature of 3 years full time (pro rata part time).
