This flexible post-graduate program aims to equip health care professionals with the knowledge, understanding and expertise to succeed in the contemporary health care sector.

The Master of Health Sciences allows students who have a background in the health professions and/or relevant disciplines or equivalent professional qualifications and work experience to develop discipline or cross discipline based knowledge and research skills so they can critically evaluate and integrate evidence based practice into their work across a range of health disciplines.

This program was developed by a leading, multi-disciplinary research team and is designed for health care professionals who want to:

  • broaden their employment prospects by acquiring new skills
  • enhance their professional knowledge and expertise
  • develop their evaluation and research skills, and/or
  • integrate evidence-based practice into their professional work

A major feature of the Master of Health Sciences program is its flexibility – it offers health care professionals the opportunity to design an entire individual program to meet their specific professional interests and learning needs.

Alternatively, applicants can choose to develop a course program from within five specialist majors of study:

Gerontology and Indigenous health streams will not be offered in 2010.

Course completion requirements

48 credit points: students are to complete as required the core, elective and general elective units of study shown in the Table of units of study for the award as set out in the Faculty of Health Sciences handbook.
