Photonics - the technology of transmission, control, and detection of light - is the cornerstone of the ultrafast internet. The Master of Photonics and Optical Science has been designed to prepare ICT professionals to meet the growing demand for photonic engineering and development.
This course and the Graduate Diploma of Photonics and Optical Science bring together the expertise of world leading research groups at the University of Sydney to provide training in the theory and application of photonics, imaging and optical science.
Covering optical communication systems, biophotonics, optical sources, detectors, optical materials, nanophotonics and quantum and nonlinear optics, these courses are run in conjunction with the Centre of Excellence in Ultrahigh Bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems, the Institute of Astronomy and the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science.
Students should expect to gain a high level of understanding of optics and photonics, with associated practical skills. In addition these courses will equip graduates for senior professional roles in a broad range of industries where specialised knowledge of ICT is crucial.
