This program provides a professional pathway to becoming a speech pathologist for students who already hold a bachelor's degree in a related area.

Students must attend on-campus as well as undertake clinical education in on- and off-campus clinics. At graduation, students are qualified to practice as a speech pathologist.
Speech pathologists assess and treat people who have a communication disability, such as a problem with speech, using and understanding language, voice, fluency, hearing, or reading and writing. One in seven Australians has some form of communication disability.
The Master of Speech Language Pathology provides a professional pathway to becoming a Speech Pathologist for students who already hold a Bachelors degree in a related area.
Full time and part time attendance
All lectures are held during the day. Full time students should expect to be on campus for 4 days per week and part time students for 2-3 days per week. Block teaching and clinic can occur outside the semester dates.
Clinical & professional fieldwork
A number of clinical and professional fieldwork opportunities are scheduled as part of your course. This will give you the hands on experience with real clients in a supervised environment to allow you to combine the academic sections of your course with the practical abilities required of the speech pathology profession. Some of the clinical and professional fieldwork sites that students have attended previously include:

- Concord Repatriation General Hospital
- East Cooper Medical Centre, USA
- Lower Nth Shore Child and Health Service
- Royal Far West School
- Royal Rehabilitation Network (Royal Darwin Hospital)
- Shepherd Centre
- Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre

Commonwealth Supported Places
The Faculty has a number of Commonwealth Supported Places available for this program. These places offer a considerable reduction in fees and are awarded to applicants who rank highest in their Grade Point Average. You will be notified with your offer if you qualify for a Commonwealth Supported Place.
Course completion requirements
96 credit points: students are to complete all core, elective and general elective units of study shown in the Table of units of study for the award as set out in the Faculty of Health Sciences handbook.
