The Australian Society for Sexuality Educators Researchers and Therapists and the sexual health chapter of the Australian College of Physicians were actively involved in developing this program which explores preventative and acute care, as well as rehabilitation.

The program equips professionals with in-depth knowledge, and skills to deal with all types of sexual health concerns, and to provide leadership in sexuality education, research and counselling.

Building on core units of study, students have the opportunity to focus on particular areas of interest. The wide range of electives makes the course suitable for members of any of the health-related professions, as well as other professionals who encounter sexuality issues in their everyday work.

Strict application closing dates for Semester 1, 2010
Please note that the closing date for domestic student applications for Semester 1 2010 will be 30 October 2009. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

Web based on-line learning
The course work component of the Graduate Program in Sexual Health is offered largely on-line, in Blended E-Learning format (utilising the internet based Web CT learning platform). The Diploma and Masters courses have a one 2 week on-campus, face-to-face session and a sexual health placement. The Graduate Certificate can be done completely in distance mode on-line.

Face to face delivery
The Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Sexual Health) will be also offered in a face-to-face on-campus mode dependant on sufficient number of applicants. This will be an opportunity for international students to experience the environment and culture of sexology and sexual health education in Australia. It will also cater to those students who prefer this mode of learning. The on-campus course will be offered in semester 2 (August to November)

Individualised learning
The course coordinators recognize that the learning needs of individual students vary considerably. To this end, every applicant is interviewed by a member of the program team, and a personalised learning plan developed.

The 2 week on-campus session is compulsory for those students enrolled in the Diploma and Masters level courses. This session is offered at the end of semester 2 during the second semester (August-November). During this time, students are given the opportunity to discuss their training and career goals in interviews with the course coordinators.

The Sexual Health Placements of the students are also determined on an individual basis and programs developed to meet personal and professional needs.

Supervision of Research
Research supervision is provided by face to face and email communication, and a monthly sex research group meeting for collaboration and learning.

The Sexual Health Research Team is part of the Aging and Human Development Faculty Research Group.

Anyone in the field of sexuality and sexual health research who would like to attend this group is welcome to contact the academic coordinator of the Graduate Program in Sexual Health.

International students
One of the strengths of the Graduate Program in Sexual Health is the establishment of an international academic community of sexologists and sexual health workers.

The Graduate Program in Sexual Health is based on global aims for healthy sexuality, sexual rights and sexual health and presented in a flexible distance mode (on-line). These features make the program particularly attractive for international students. Students can participate in the program wherever they are in the world. The opportunity to participate in on-line discussions with fellow students, lecturers and experts ensures that a true global perspective is achieved.

The Diploma of Health Science (Sexual Health) and Master of Health Science (Sexual Health) require attendance at a 2 week on campus unit of study (Sexual Counselling Practicum). This unit of study is offered in the second semester (second semester commences in August). It is offered in Sydney in November/December (summer). There is also a 80 hours of sexual health placement. This could be done either in Sydney (or another part of Australia) or in the student's home country. Students will travel on a tourist visa for this purpose.

For more information about the program contact the academic coordinator or through our online enquiry system.
