What is a Student Card?

Your Student Card is your University ID card. You need to carry your Student Card with you at all times while you're on campus and display it when you sit formal examinations.

Why do I need a Student Card?

Student Cards enhance security and personal safety within the University and provide you with a convenient multi-purpose card. It also serves to identify you as a student of this University should you need to justify your presence in selected areas of the campus.

What can I use my Student Card for?

Besides using your Student Card as your University ID, you can also use it for:

  • travel concessions (if you're eligible)
  • borrowing library books
  • printing and photocopying
  • student discounts
  • after-hours access to buildings (with relevant faculty staff approval).

Important news for 2008 Student Cards

Mid Year Enrolments – Starting Semester 2

If you are enrolling in Semester 2 for the first time you can obtain your student card after you have finalised your enrolment. You will need to bring your enrolment fee status form along with photo identification to the University Card Centre. The University Card Centre is able to issue student cards for student's studying at all campuses.

Students enrolling in person for Semester 2 at the Cumberland Campus can obtain their student card at Student Central on the advised enrolment days; other times students can obtain their student card from Student Central, Monday to Friday. Please contact Student Central for specific card issuance times and location on +61 2 9351 9161.

Students enrolling in person for Semester 2 at the Faculty of Law are advised to obtain their student card on the advised enrolment days; other times student cards can be obtained from Level 12, Student Administration. Please contact Student Administration for specific card issuance times on +61 2 9351 0351.

If you are a continuing student from 2007 and re-enrolling in Semester 2 only and have not obtained your student card, please visit the University Card Centre. Please note that student cards will not be mailed out for Semester 2 enrolments.

How do I get my 2008 Student Card?

Pre–enrolling domestic students

2008 Student Cards have been issued. Your card is active and will expire on 31 March 2009 if you remain enrolled for both Semesters in 2008. If you withdraw, suspend or discontinue from your studies your card will no longer be active to use for library access and travel concession.

What if I haven’t received my new Student Card?

If you have not received your 2008 student card, please contact the University Card Centre.

The University Card Centre is located in Fisher Library, Level 2 and is open:

Monday to Friday: 9am to 5.45pm
Saturday (Semester only): 1pm to 4.45pm

Cumberland campus

2008 Student Cards have been issued. Pre-enrolling international students

International students who have yet to collect their card now need to obtain their student card at the University Card Centre. To collect your card, you need to bring:

  • Photo Identification
  • Confirmation of Enrolment

In-person enrolling students and unsuccessful pre-enrolling students

Obtaining your Student Card is the final stage in the enrolment process. If you need to enrol or discuss your enrolment please contact your relevant faculty. Once your enrolment is finalised you can visit:

  • University Card Centre – Camperdown Campus
  • Student Central – Cumberland Campus
  • Student Administration – Law Faculty

The University Card Centre issues student cards for all campuses, including the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Conservatorium of Music and Sydney College of the Arts, Rozelle.

If you reside outside the metropolitan area please utilise the remote/distance application form below or if you reside offshore (overseas) then you may utilise the Offshore application form.

Remote/Distance Students

Studying away from campus – don't worry, we have you covered.

If you are not attending campus to enrol or to study and you reside outside the Sydney metropolitan area, you can apply for a student card by completing the Remote/Distance Student application form.

You will need to attach to the form:

  1. An endorsed passport sized photo
  2. A certified copy of your passport or driver’s licence or proof of age card.

Certification can be done by:

  • your faculty administrator,
  • your course co-ordinator,
  • a Justice of the Peace, or
  • Notary Public

Send all requested documentation to:

Or alternatively, you can arrange with your faculty to endorse the form and photo and send on your behalf. Student cards will not be sent if the application is incomplete.

Offshore Students

If you are studying offshore (overseas), you will need to complete the Offshore Student application form to obtain your Student Card. Forms can be provided by your Faculty Administrator when you enrol or can be downloaded from this site.

You will need to attach to the form:

  1. An endorsed passport sized photo
  2. A certified copy of your passport or driver’s licence or proof of age card.

Certification can be done by:

  • your faculty administrator,
  • your course co-ordinator,
  • a Justice of the Peace, or
  • Notary Public

I've varied my enrolment. What do I do?

You will only need to obtain a new Student Card if:

  • Your attendance has increased to fulltime and you are a domestic student and you wish to apply for a travel concession
  • You are now a permanent resident and a full time domestic student and you wish to apply for a travel concession

Please visit the University Card Centre and bring the following:

  1. Your existing Student Card
  2. Photo identification (passport, driver’s licence or proof of age card)

Note: You do not need to obtain a new Student Card if you have transferred into a different course.

Travel Concession

You are advised to visit the Ministry of Transport website for any pass concession entitlement enquiries or concerns. The University Card Centre is an agent that acts on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and is required to follow the eligibility criteria set by them when issuing travel concessions.

Replacement Student Cards and travel concessions

If your Student Card has been lost or stolen you need to obtain a replacement card from the University Card Centre by completing the Replacement Student Card form and providing photo identification (passport, driver’s licence or proof of age card). The cost of replacing your Student Card is $20.

If you are eligible for a replacement travel concession, replacement travel concession forms are available at the University Card Centre. The form requires endorsement by the University Card Centre and $21 is payable to the Passes and Concession Office at the below address:

Replacement of cards due to change of name details will also incur a replacement fee of $20.00 and additional $21.00 payable to the Passes and Concession Office for a replacement travel concession.

Students attending Cumberland Campus may apply for a replacement student card and travel concession at Student Central by following the same application process. Both application forms are available at this location.

Students attending the Law Faculty, Phillip Street may apply for a replacement student card and travel concession at Student Administration, Level 12 by following the same application process. Both application forms are available from this location.
