The Sydney Access Program
The Sydney Access Program assists students who may not otherwise attend the University of Sydney because of financial or educational disadvantage.
The Sydney Access Program
- Provides tailored options for financial assistance, including Access Scholarships and an expanded range of bursaries for first-year and continuing students
- Reaches out to current and prospective students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Coordinates support services across the University to ensure students receive appropriate help
The Sydney Access Program Working Group supports the development of the Program.
Financial Assistance
The University of Sydney has an extensive range of scholarships for students from equity groups. The University also has a number of loan and bursary funds to assist students who experience financial difficulties.

Special admission and concessional entry schemes
Special admission schemes and equity programs
The following four schemes are offered by the University in an effort to assist applicants who have suffered disadvantage during the course of their studies, and to improve accessibility to university courses for certain groups due to equity reasons.
- Broadway scheme for disadvantaged Year 12 applicants
- Cadigal scheme for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants
- Special Consideration for Admission Scheme for admission for applicants with a record of tertiary study
- Mature-age Entry Scheme for students who will be 21 years of age or over on 1 March of the year of entry to the University, do not have a UAI or equivalent, and/or have not completed one full-time year (or part-time equivalent) of tertiary study and have completed an approved preparation course

Concessional Entry Schemes
The University offers a number of other concessional entry schemes, which can assist certain types of applicants to gain admission. These schemes are designed to target particular groups of applicants to encourage them to apply, rather than to address disadvantage.
Flexible Entry Schemes
- Flexible Entry Scheme for school leavers whose UAIs fall just below course cut-offs (only available for certain Camperdown/Darlington campus courses)
- Elite Athletes & Performers Scheme for applicants whose results have been by affected by training commitments
- Multicultural Entry Scheme (for certain health science courses)
- Rural Students Entry Scheme for the Bachelor of Pharmacy
- Faculty of Health Sciences Special Entry Schemes
- Vocational Entry Scheme for certain health science courses
