Koori Centre

The Koori Centre provides programs, services and facilities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying in all faculties and courses across the Uni.

The Koori Centre has a fully equipped computer laboratory, photocopying facilities, Research Library, a tutorial room for study and a student common room with full kitchen facilities. Most of the staff at the Koori centre are Indigenous, leading to a supportive and understanding atmosphere.

Students enrolled in the Cadigal Program (special entry program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students) and all Indigenous students of the University can access the Academic Skills Program's weekly group tutorials.

The Koori Centre aims to increase the awareness of Indigenous Australian issues within the University and the wider community. This is achieved in part by teaching in a range of courses across the Faculties of the University, including Arts, Education and Nursing.

The Centre co-ordinates block mode programs in the following courses: Tertiary Preparation Course (TPC) which is a one-year program for school leavers and mature age students wishing to enrol in university or who wish to enhance their skills generally; and the Diploma in Education (Aboriginal) which is a two-year course offering intensive education skills training. This course leads into the Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Aboriginal Studies) which is also a block-mode program for a further two years. Entry into the Bachelor program is by completion of the Diploma or equivalent qualifications.
