Services
Digital and Print Media (DPM) provides a full range of writing and editing services for the University's print and online publications. It also maintains an Editorial Style Guide to help maintain a consistent editorial voice across University publications.
If you would like to enquire about our writing and editing services, please contact our operations manager.
Editing
All print publications designed by DPM are edited by one of our editors.
We can also edit text that will not be laid out by our designers. This may be copy for your website, material that has been written by someone else but needs University styling, or copy that will go into a publication designed outside DPM.
Our editors will ensure your text is clear and coherent, correct any errors and adapt the style to conform to the University's requirements. We use the University's Editorial Style Guide to ensure all our publications meet consistent standards.
We also provide a list of tips for effective editing and proofreading.
Editorial Style Guide
The University has an extensive style guide with guidelines and hints on all aspects of written style, for both print and online. It is arranged into two overarching sections (see left-hand menu) that include:
- general grammar and style tips (for example guidance on punctuation, capitalisation, preferred spellings, and how to use non-discriminatory language)
- information about how to refer to the University (for example what terms are capitalised, and how to refer to Sydney degrees).
The guide is based on best practice at Australian public institutions and other leading universities around the world. More information about how the style guide was compiled. If you have any questions or suggestions please contact our senior editor.
Writing
DPM's writers can produce print and web-ready copy for University faculties and departments. We have a pool of experienced in-house and contract copywriters and journalists who are familiar with the University environment.
If you require this service, a member of our team will meet with you to discuss your needs before developing story concepts, arranging interviews and delivering news or feature articles ready for print or digital publication.
We also maintain a list of handy tips to help people who need to write material for University publications. There is also special guidance for writing for the web.
