Staff with a Disability

The University of Sydney supports equal opportunity in education and employment. This means that the University seeks to provide a work environment which all staff can access and participate in productively.

This website is to support staff with a disability by providing information on support services, legislation, University policies, other useful websites and University support personnel.

The University of Sydney's Disability Services website provides more information for prospective and enrolled students with a disability.

What is a Disability?

The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 provides a definition of 'disability'. A disability can be:

  • physical
  • intellectual
  • psychiatric
  • sensory
  • neurological or learning disabilities
  • physical disfigurement
  • illnesses such as HIV/AIDS.

Carers, relatives and associates of people with a disability are also protected against being discriminated against or harassed because of these associations.

EOOnline provides more information on disability discrimination.

University of Sydney staff who are deaf or hearing impaired are invited to join the Public Sector Deaf and Hearing Impaired Network.
