Disability Action Plan
The University of Sydney's Disability Action Plan 2006-2010 is a formal strategic document aimed at ensuring the equitable participation by people with disabilities in the life of the University.
The Plan is consistent with the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 which makes provision for organisations, including universities, to develop and implement a Disability Action Plan and lodge the Plan with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.
The Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person on the basis of a disability that a person has now, once had, may have in the future or is assumed to have. It is also unlawful under the Act to discriminate against a person on the basis that their associate (partner, friend, family member or work colleague) has a disability.
EEO/AA Management Plan
The University's Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Management Plan has been developed in accordance with Part 9A of the New South Wales Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
The EEO/AA Management Plan is designed to promote equal participation of all EEO target groups at every level of decision-making and across each of the University's core functions. The EEO/AA Management Plan details a plan of action of addressing systemic equal opportunity issues affecting staff, and sets out 11 key objectives for promoting access, diversity and equality in the workplace. It lists strategies for achieving these objectives and provides performance criteria and time lines against which the University's progress in this area can be measured.
