About the Progam
The University of Sydney is now accepting applications for the 2009 Indigenous Cadetship Program.
An Indigenous cadetship is a great way to receive the hands-on training and mentorship you need to boost your confidence and practical knowledge in your chosen field. Ultimately, cadetships provide you with paid work experience that will assist you on your career path.
What is it?
The Indigenous Cadetship is a paid training program for students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who are enrolled at an Australian university in an undergraduate degree.
You’ll undertake a meaningful work program in a faculty or school that is aligned with your area of interest or study. Cadets typically work at the university one day per week, as well as two weeks full-time per year, however, your schedule will be flexible and tailored to fit in with your study.
How long does it go for?
Up to 20 cadetships will be offered in two phases within the 2009 academic year. Cadetships can run for up to 3 years to complement your undergraduate degree.
Is it paid?
Yes. Once you begin your cadetship you will receive a competitive fortnightly wage, study allowance and a book/equipment allowance. You cannot continue to receive an AB Study allowance for the duration of the cadetship; however you are free to earn other income outside of your employment with the University.
What makes a great cadet?
A great cadet is a student who is eager to learn skills that will assist in their career after graduation. You’ll be highly motivated and will be prepared to fully commit to the program and contribute to the culture of the University. As you’ll be working in a team-oriented environment and coached by leaders in your chosen field, your good communication skills and willingness to take direction will be important.
Are you eligible?
You can apply for this cadetship if you are currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree at an Australian university. You will also identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such by your community.
