Disability Action Plan

The University of Sydney's Disability Action Plan 2006-2010 is a formal strategic document aimed at ensuring the equitable participation by people with disabilities in the life of the University.

The Plan is consistent with the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 which makes provision for organisations, including universities, to develop and implement a Disability Action Plan and lodge the Plan with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. The plan also incorporates key elements of the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act, Disability Standards for Education, brought into effect in 2005.

The Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person on the basis of a disability that a person has now, once had, may have in the future or is assumed to have. It is also unlawful under the Act to discriminate against a person on the basis that their associate (partner, friend, family member or work colleague) has a disability.
