Flexible Work Conditions
Flexible modes of employment
Staff members who have family commitments can access a range of flexible working options, including:
- Reduced Working Weeks
By agreement with their Head of Department, and with a proportionate reduction in salary, a general staff member who is normally full-time may take 4 weeks paid leave in addition to their 4 weeks of Annual Leave. - Flexible Working Arrangements
By agreement, day workers have the ability to work hours outside the standard number and span of hours, paid at the ordinary rate of pay.
Other flexible modes of employment may include:
- part-time work
- jobsharing
Assisting staff with family responsibilities
Staff members with family responsibilities may also negotiate one or more of the following arrangements with their head of department:
- taking up to a week's Annual Leave in single days
- taking unpaid leave to enable an employee to care for a family member who is ill
- taking time off in lieu of overtime
- working 'make-up' time where an employee may do additional work to make-up for time lost
