2009 Sciences and Technology Projects

Charting the evidence
An existing resource that helps students think through evidence and form an opinion will be integrated into the curriculum of some subjects in Psychology.

Interactive and online learning for signals and systems
In this we project some simple animations will be built to illustrate mathematical concepts in an electrical engineering subject. Some formative assessment will also be added to the course.

An interactive Video Repository of Practical Lab Techniques
Students in first year Chemistry will take short videos of lab techniques, and a gallery will be created so students can watch all the videos.

Options in teaching Biometry online
This is a small research project to find out who is teaching biometry online and to write a report for the faculty to help with their decision-making around teaching this subject.

A Treasure Hunt for First Year Chemistry
A Treasure Hunt has been developed, using places on campus. A site will be developed for the students to upload their pictures of each clue. They then mark the clues as points on a map of the campus that will eventually form the shape of a molecule that they have to identify.

The Bioethisphere: innovative web-based resource for teaching and learning ethics in health and biosciences
The Bioethisphere has been built in previous project periods. We are now adding teaching material to it.

Language in Biology
We will be building online activities for first-year students to learn the specialised language of the discipline more easily.

Moving beyond Mode A
In this project we are working with the staff of the Agriculture faculty to increase the uptake and complexity of e-learning. There will be staff consultations and training sessions, and probably some site building in consultation with staff.

Information Architecture: a coordinated approach to eLearning
There have been virtually no Sydney eLearning sites created in the Architecture faculty. We will be working with staff to create eLearning sites and training them to use them.

Framework to support learning and teaching of engineering design
This project will involve the creation of an online module on the principles of engineering design for use by all teaching staff in the faculty.

Reading the primary literature in Biology
This is the final module in a site we have been building for some years.

The Virtual Microscopy Experience
In this project we will be integrating a new technology that enables microscopic images to be digitised and behave like google earth into the teaching of a Unit of Study.

Improving the student experience in genetics units
This project will create online resources that can be used in both a fully online Unit of Study in Vets and a blended Unit of Study in Biology.

Adding resources to the Spotlight site
We would like to add some audio to the spotlight site and perhaps make it searchable.

Empowering sciences students to express their own opinions of research papers
This Unit of Study is already being taught face-to-face. This project will move existing resources into an interactive online format.
