Getting started
The best place to become familiar with My eLearning is in a 'playground' site. A playground site is based on a basic template. No-one will see your playground unless you ask us to give them access.
You can experiment with eLearning in your playground. You can add, customise and delete tools, or change the appearance of the site with new colours and fonts. This is the best place to become familiar with eLearning tools before adding them to your Unit of Study site.
Getting a playground
If you attend the Introductory workshops you will be given a playground, or you can contact the eLearning Helpdesk and ask for a playground to be made for you. Send an email requesting a playground, giving your full name and Unikey ID, or ring the Helpdesk on 9351 8728 with this information.
Learning to use My eLearning
Free Introductory and Intermediate Workshops are run regularly by the My eLearning team on Camperdown/Darlington and Cumberland campuses. We encourage all site designers to attend!
When you are ready to develop your Unit of Study site, you will need to contact the Sydney eLearning Helpdesk to organise access to SEAMS for you. Once you have access to SEAMS you can create your own Unit of Study websites. When Unit of Study sites are created, they may be based on a blank template or on an existing site.
New from template
The basic template comes with some tools, such as a Unit of Study Outline, a Content Module and Discussions. You can delete these if not needed and add other tools. The copyright notice and contact details for the University's eLearning Helpdesk and ITS must remain on the Homepage.
Copy another course
You can create a new site that is a copy of one of your existing sites. This will reduce the development time as your new site will have the same tools and appearance as the copied site. To do this, you will need to select the site you wish to copy as the template for the new site under Request a Site in SEAMS.
Taking over someone else's site
If you inherit a site from the previous course coordinator, the Sydney eLearning team will need an email from the original unit coordinator authorising them to create the site for you based on the original site.
