Guides for Students
The following handouts are free for all staff at the University of Sydney to reproduce and distribute to students. They are intended to aid you in assisting students to use and understand some of the on-line learning tools which you may be using in your unit(s) of study.
Logging in to Sydney eLearning UoS sites: This guide explains how to log in to the university LMS system, including how to find the login page and what you'll see when you've logged in successfully.
Using the University LMS eLearning Environment: Once students have logged in to the University LMS, they'll be directed to their own personal course list of elearning sites under the heading My eLearning Sites. This course list is tailored to their timetable. The guide explains the various components of this elearning course list and how to use them effectively.
Inside My Site: There are certain features that in the university's eLearning sites that are common to all UoS site. This guide contains information on how to navigate and interact with a standard eLearning website. Common features include the navigation (a left-hand menu that links to the Discussion, Assessment (Quizzes) and Assignment tools) with icons on the Homepage linking to various folders in the site.
Important Tools: The following guides contain comprehensive instructions on frequently used tools.
- Assessment tools (including quizzes and surveys)
- Assignments
- Discussion tools (including threaded topics, blogs and journals)
It is strongly suggested by the Sydney eLearning team that UoS coordinators use the University of Sydney email to communicate with students rather than the Mail tool in the LMS system. The university LMS mail tool does not connect to the official University of Sydney mail, and this may cause delays in receiving email.
