All
research projects involving humans which include...
- the
use of questionnaires/surveys or interviews;
- access
to medical or other personal records;
- investigations
of human behaviour;
- routine
testing of human subjects;
- the
administration of drugs, ionising radiation, chemical agents or vaccines;
- any
other experimentation on human beings;
undertaken
by Staff, Honours, Masters, Doctorate and other Higher Degree and
Diploma students must be submitted for the approval of the Human
Research Ethics Committee. As a rule, undergraduate pre-honours
projects may be approved by the Head of Department but, if there
is any doubt, reference should be made to the Senior Ethics Officer.
If
ethical approval is required for a project, an application form
(Version 11) may
be downloaded from the Forms and
Guides page of this site. The form will allow researchers
to be able to use the one form for studies involving the University
of Sydney and all their teaching hospitals, University of New South
Wales and all their teaching hospitals. If you have already received
ethics approval from an Area Health Service Ethics Committee please
refer to the section of this site titled Hospitals/CTN/CTX.
Please note, the HREC does not
give retrospective approval.
