Each year the Koori Centre, Yooroang Garang, Indigenous Health Promotions and the Department of Rural Health at Broken Hill and the University’s Careers Centre receive information about Indigenous Australian Cadetships and Traineeships offered by government departments and industry. Each program is different depending on the employer and the student’s study timetable, but students are generally expected to work at the company or department at various times throughout the year such as during the mid-year and end-of-year breaks. Students may also be required to work for a set period once they have completed their studies. Cadetships and Traineeships generally offer students some or all of the following: HECS/Fees paid by the company/department; additional on-the-job/industry-based training; residential costs on campus covered by company/department; a weekly allowance.
The Indigenous Cadetship Program is a paid training program for students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who are enrolled at an Australian university in an undergraduate degree.
You’ll undertake a meaningful work program in a faculty or school that is aligned with your area of interest or study. Cadets typically work at the university one day per week, as well as two weeks full-time per year, however, your schedule will be flexible and tailored to fit in with your study.
