Scholarships offered by the University to Indigenous Australian students basically fall under two categories: Residential or Financial. Residential scholarships cover the cost of accommodation and meals at one of the University’s Residential Colleges, and Financial scholarships can be a one-off or continuing payment made directly to the student.
The University of Sydney Indigenous Entry Scholarships are awarded to students of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have obtained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in the NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) of 85.0 or above and who are commencing the first year of an undergraduate award course at The University of Sydney.
The Scholarship will be awarded to all students applying for admission to The University of Sydney through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) who fulfil the above criteria, subject to verification of eligibility.
A confirmed offer of a scholarship must be taken up by enrolment in the first year of the nominated degree or combined degree program in the year for which the offer is made. The Scholarship may be deferred for up to one year.
The value of Scholarships is $5,000 and will be paid in two equal instalments in late March and late August, subject to continued enrolment and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. The Scholarship is tenable for one year only.
Residential Colleges and some faculties of the University offer a number of part or full Scholarships to Indigenous Australian Students to cover the cost of accommodation and meals on the Camperdown campus. Funds go directly towards these costs and sometimes a small weekly allowance may also paid to the student.
Staff are also available to advise students on how to apply.
