News & Events

There are many special events held on the various campuses of the University which may be of interest to you.

At the beginning of each year the Koori Centre, Yooroang Garang: Indigenous Health Studies, Indigenous Health Promotions and the Department of Rural Health at Broken Hill run Orientation programs for new undergraduate and postgraduate Indigenous Australian students. This gives students a chance to find out about facilities, tutoring, scholarships and other support resources which are available. It also gives new students a chance to come together and chat over lunch. Indigenous Australian students who have been studying at the University are also available to talk about any fears or concerns new students may have.

We also encourage you to take part in the wider University SWOT program which is a three-day Orientation program for all students of the University. These three days are valuable for finding out about clubs and societies, special activities, faculty facilities and getting a sense of what the campuses are like with lots of students around.

Other events which are held throughout the year include: Reconciliation Week and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Week. During these weeks you can attend lectures, music and dance performances, trivia nights and movie screenings, among other things.

The Dr Charles Perkins AO, Annual Memorial Oration is another very important University event which is held in October each year. We encourage you to come along. Entry is free.
