The University of Sydney is committed to increasing Indigenous Australian participation in all of the courses delivered across its many campuses. As parents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prospective students, you may have some concerns about many things including cultural safety for your children. Staff at the Koori Centre and the School of Public Health on the main campus, Yooroang Garang School of Indigenous Health Studies at Lidcombe, and the Department of Rural Health at Broken Hill, provide support, assistance and encouragement to each and every Indigenous Australian student of the University. Indigenous Australian staff members are available for academic advice and cultural support during times of need. Facilities specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students provide places to meet and get to know each other. This is an invaluable process for new students in particular as they learn about University life and establish networks which they maintain throughout their program of study and beyond. Please do not hesitate to contact the Koori Centre, Public Health, Yooroang Garang or Rural Health if you have any questions. We are here to help you and to assist your children while they undertake study at the University of Sydney. The Information for Parents section of the University’s Future Students website has lots of general information which may also be helpful to you.
