Four steps to apply for a research course

1. Am I academically qualified to apply for a Research degree?

Yes, if you have the equivalent of an Australian honours degree, or a masters by research degree, or a masters by coursework with a minor thesis component.

If you are not appropriately qualified, you should consider taking a postgraduate coursework program.

2. Identify an academic contact/potential supervisor

Contact a suitable member of the academic staff and present them with an initial proposal outlining your proposed topic of research before submitting your application. They will read and comment on your research proposal before you submit an application and indicate if they are willing to supervise you.

Find a supervisor.

3. Develop and submit an initial research proposal

Your proposal should be no more than 500 words in length. Refine your research proposal ready for submission of your formal application.

4. Submit your application

You must complete the current application form and lodge it with the relevant faculty office. In the case of international students the application should be lodged with the International Office.
