Our cutting edge research has led to the award of more new Australian Research Council (ARC) funding for 2006 and 2007 than any other university. We are the national leader in research income and research publications (2006) and are attracting the brightest students to our postgraduate degree programs.

More than 600 research scholarships are on offer for students enrolling in a postgraduate research degree in 2008. These include:

VCRS, APA, UPA

The Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarships (VCRS) are offered to attract students with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential to pursue full-time PhD study at the University of Sydney. Up to 20 VCRS will be awarded every year.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at an Australian university. The scholarships are provided to assist with general living costs. Of the APA from the Commonwealth Government in 2007, The University of Sydney was allocated 153.

In 2008, the University expects to award 55 University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA) which are similar to APA in terms of tenure and benefits.
