Finding Units of Study Online

The University of Sydney offers more than 4,000 units of study to Study Abroad and Inbound Exchange students. These units are available in a wide range of academic areas ranging from the Humanities through to the Sciences, Music through to Engineering. While many units are on offer, some of the units may still require academic approval by the University of Sydney before you are able to enrol in the unit. The Study Abroad and Exchange Unit can assist you with this process, once you have identified the Units of Study you wish to enrol in.

All available units of study for Study Abroad and Exchange students can be found in the Online Unit of Study Database.

Instructions

In order to view all the units of study that are available for Study Abroad and Inbound Exchange students, please access the Online Unit of Study Database using the instructions below.

  1. Go to the Unit of Study database.
  2. Enter an appropriate Keyword, eg. Biology
  3. For Taught in Semester, select the appropriate semester. The standard semesters are:
    Semester 1 (starting in March)
    Semester 2 (starting in August)
  4. During March semester, some units are also taught intensively in:
    Semester 1a (7),
    Semester 1b (8),
    S1 Intensive (6),
    S1 Late Intensive (61).
    During July semester, some units are taught intensively in:
    Semester 2a (9),
    Semester 2b (10),
    S2 Intensive (5),
    S2 Late Intensive (51).
  5. Units offered in Summer School (4) are taught from early January to early March. Units offered in Winter School (11) are taught for 3 weeks in July. Students who wish to enrol in Summer or Winter School units should visit the Summer and Winter School website for detailed application instructions.
  6. You MUST tick the box labelled "Study Abroad and Exchange units only"
  7. For UoS Level select Any level (to view all available units) or select a specific level to refine your search.
    1000 level = Junior Level (equivalent to Freshman or Sophomore level in USA)
    2000 level = Intermediate Level (equivalent to Junior level in USA)
    3000 level = Senior Level (equivalent to Senior level in USA)
    4000 level = Honours Level (available to Graduate level students only)
    5000+ level = (available to Graduate level students only)
  8. Click on Search

Interpreting the list of Units of Study

The resulting list will display all units that meet your search criteria. Each Unit of Study starts with a four digit alpha-code plus a four digit numeric-code eg: HSTY2001 for History or PSYC3230 for Psychology.
