Recognised international secondary qualifications
The secondary qualifications the University of Sydney recognises as sufficient for direct entry into undergraduate programs are listed below.
Completion of one of these qualifications does not guarantee admission to the University of Sydney. Admission to the University of Sydney is competitive and selection is based on academic performance. International applicants are expected to meet the same standards required for entry as local applicants.
For students whose secondary qualifications are not listed here, the minimum entry requirement is usually at least one year's successful full-time study at a recognised tertiary institution. The qualifications are listed against the country from which they originate. These qualifications may be obtained from any country in which they are offered.
Students who do not meet these minimum entry requirements may like to apply for the University of Sydney Foundation Program.
General international qualifications
- Advanced International Certificate of Education: Completion of the 'Advanced International Certificate of Education' at a Pass level or above.
- European Baccalaureate: Completion of the 'Diplome du Baccalaureate European' OR the 'Zeugnis der Europaischen Reifeprufung' OR the 'Diploma di Licenze Liceale Europea' OR the 'Europees Baccalaureaats' Diploma.
- GCE A Levels: Completion of at least three 'Advanced Level' subjects in the same academic year. A maximum of two 'Advanced Subsidiary (AS)' subjects may be included in the aggregate score. Two AS subjects are not deemed to be equivalent to one 'Advanced Level' subject.
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: Entry is based on the total score for the completed IB Diploma.

Bulgaria - Completion of the 'Zrelostno Svidetelstvo', OR the 'Diploma za Zavrsheno Sredno Obrazovanie'.
Canada – Completion of the Alberta High School Diploma, British Columbia Senior Secondary School Graduation Diploma, Manitoba High School Graduation Diploma, Newfoundland Provincial High School Graduation Certificate, New Brunswick High School Graduation Diploma, Nova Scotia High School Completion Certificate, Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Prince Edward Island High School Graduation Certificate, Quebec Diploma of Collegial Studies or Saskatchewan Complete Division IV Grade XII Standing.
Czech Republic - Completion of the 'Vysvedceni o Maturitni Zkousce' OR the 'Maturita'.
Denmark - Completion of the 'Studentereksamen' from a Gymnasium, the ‘Bevis for Hojere Forberedelseksamen’, the ‘Tekniskeksamen’, or the "Handelseksamen".
Eire (Republic of Ireland) - Completion of the 'Leaving Certificate' OR the 'Matriculation Certificate'.
Finland - Completion of the 'Ylioppilastutkintotodistus’ OR the ‘Studenteksamensbetyg’.
France - Completion of the 'French Baccalaureat’.
Germany - Completion of the 'Abiturientenzeugnis', the 'Reifezeugnis', the ‘ Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife’ OR the ‘Zeugnis der Reife’.
Greece - Completion of the 'State University/General Entrance Examination' OR the 'Greek Panhellenic Examination'.
Hong Kong - Completion of at least three 'Hong Kong Advanced Level' subjects in one academic year.
Hungary - Completion of the 'Gimnaziumi Erettsegi Bizonyitvany', the 'Erettsegi Vizsga', the 'Matura', OR the 'Szakkozepiskolai Erettsegi_kepesity Bizonyitvany'.
Iceland - Completion of the 'Studentsprof' from a Gymnasium.
India - Completion of the 'All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE)' OR the 'Indian School Certificate'.
Israel - Completion of the 'Teudat Bagrut'.
Italy - Completion of the 'Diploma di Maturita Classica’, the ‘Diploma Maturita Scientifica’ OR the ‘Diploma di Maturita Linguistica’.
Liechtenstein – Completion of the ‘Liechtenstein Maturitatszeugnis’.
Luxembourg - Completion of the 'Diplome de Fin d'Etudes Secondaires'.

Netherlands - Completion of the 'Voorbereidend Wetnschappelijik Onderwijs (VWO)' from a Gymnasium, Atheneum or Lyceum.
New Zealand - Completion of the award of the 'University Bursary' OR the ‘NCEA’.
Norway - Completion of the 'Examen Artium', the 'Vitnemal: Den Videregaende Skole' OR the ‘Eksamen fra Okonomisk Gymnas’.
Poland - Completion of the 'Matura', the ‘Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci Liceum Ogolnoksztalcacego’, the ‘Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci Liceum Zawodowego’, the ‘Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci Technikum Zawodowego’, the ‘Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci Technikum’ OR the 'Egzamin Maturalny'.
Portugal - Completion of the ‘Carta do Curso Complementar Liceus’, the ‘Certifico de fim de Estudos Secundarios’, the ‘Diploma de Decimo Segundo Ano de Escolaridad’, the ‘Certidao do Decimo Segundo Ano’ OR the 'Diploma Tecnico Profissional'.
Romania - Completion of the 'Diploma de Bacalaureat (Maturitate)’.
Scotland - Completion of the 'Scottish Certificate of Education (SCE)', with passes (obtained in 2 sittings or less) over 4 or more subjects at the Higher Level, OR the ‘National Courses’.
Singapore - Completion of the 'Singapore GCE A levels'.
Slovak Federal Republic - Completion of the 'Vysvedceni o Maturitni Zkousce' OR the 'Maturita'.
South Africa - Completion of the 'J.M.B. Matriculation Certificate', the 'South African Senior Certificate' (prior to 2008) OR the 'South African Senior National Certificate' (2008 onwards).
South Korea - Completion of the 'Immumgye kodung hakkyo choreup chung'.
Spain - Completion of the ‘Technico Especialista’, the ‘Curso pre-universitaria’ OR the ‘Curso de Orientacion Universitaria’.
Sri Lanka - Completion of the 'Sri Lankan GCE A levels'

Switzerland - Completion of a Federal Maturity Certificate (the 'Certificate de Maturite', the 'Baccalaureat', the 'Maturitatszeugnis' or the 'Attestato di Maturita').
Tanzania - Completion of the 'Tanzanian Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education'.
Uganda - Completion of the 'Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education'.
United Kingdom - Completion of the 'GCE A Levels' (see general above).
USA - Completion of at least one 'Advanced Placement Tests' with a minimum grade 'B' or score of 4, presented with current 'SAT' or 'ACT' results and the award of the 'High School Diploma'.
