Specific information for mature-age entry applicants

It’s never too late to learn! Whether you’re looking for a career change or simply to challenge yourself, you’ll find a course that suits you at the University of Sydney and plenty of other mature-age students who are already here.

The Mature Age Entry Scheme is an avenue for entry into the University of Sydney for people of at least 21 years of age who would not normally qualify for admission.

You are eligible to apply for the Mature-age Entry Scheme if:

  • you are 21 years of age or older on 1 March of the year you intend to commence tertiary study;
  • you do not have the required UAI (or equivalent result in another secondary qualification) for admission to any course;
  • you do not have a record of tertiary study; and
  • you have completed an approved preparation course. These preparation courses usually run for one year, starting at the beginning of the university or TAFE academic year, but in some cases can be completed in six months.

However, you cannot use the Mature Age Entry Scheme if you already have any of the following:

  • a UAI score of 70.00 or more from the NSW HSC exam (or equivalent)
  • a completed TAFE (or accredited private college)* diploma (or advanced diploma)
  • a university* attendance record of one or more full-time years (or equivalent)

If you are eligible for the Mature Age Entry Scheme or are unsure about your eligibility, visit the Student Centre site for more information.
