Fees and Costs - Study Abroad and Student Exchange
Fees include charges for tuition, compulsory subscriptions and Overseas Student Health Cover. There are additional fees for Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Art Workshop students. For some units of study there may be additional charges for field trips, lab units and lecture notes.
Tuition fees
- The 2009 base rate for Study Abroad students is A$10,272 per semester. This flat fee entitles students to enrol in a full-time study load for one semester. At the University of Sydney, students who enrol in 18 or more credit points in one semester are considered to be enrolled full-time.
- The 2010 base rate will be A$10,560 per semester.
- Student Exchange is a fee-waiver program so tuition fees do not apply.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
The Australian government requires all international students and their families to pay for their own health insurance in Australia through the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme. You may choose to purchase OSHC through the University of Sydney or you can arrange your own OSHC independently through an approved provider. Visit the Department of Health and Ageing website for a list of approved providers.
The University-preferred provider of OSHC is OSHC Worldcare. If you purchase OSHC through the University of Sydney we will advise the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) on your behalf. If you choose to purchase OSHC independently you must must provide evidence of your OSHC membership when you submit your Australian student visa application.
Membership of a health insurance scheme in your home country does not exempt you from paying OSHC. Only the following students are exempt from paying the Australian Overseas Students Health Cover:
- Swedish students covered by MARSH
- Norwegian students covered by the National Norwegian Insurance Scheme
- New Zealand students who come to Australia on a non-student visa. These students have entitlements under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement between Australia and New Zealand.
If you insure with OSHC Worldcare through the University, then in so doing, you consent to the University disclosing your relevant personal details (for example, your family name, given name, sex, date of birth, start date and campus code) to OSHC Worldcare so that your OSHC can be registered.
| OSHC WORLDCARE FEES | Fees from 1 January 2008 |
|---|---|
| Single student up to 6 months | $185 |
| Single student up to 12 months | $370 |
| Family up to 6 months | $370 |
| Family up to 12 months |
$740 |
Optional Extra Insurance
Your standard OSHC does not pay for services provided by dentists, opticians, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, naturopaths or any other ancillary services. However, "extras" insurance cover is available under OSHC Worldcare Student Plus and a range of other OSHC providers. For more information about OSHC Worldcare Plus visit the OSHC Worldcare website.
