Camilla - PhD

My name is: Camilla

I am studying: For a PhD in the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

My specialisation is: Researching the venom of the platypus.

I chose my specialisation because: It was the most obscure thing I could think of and it’s good to talk about at dinner parties. Actually really it was because platypuses are amazingly bizarre and interesting animals. Who ever heard of a venomous mammal?

The one thing I couldn’t live without is: With a brain like a goldfish, I would have to say my Filofax.

My favourite colour is: Red.

My favourite quote is: If you see anything strange or unusual, just enjoy it while you can. – Michael Leunig

The last book I read/movie I saw was: The last book I read was Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck. I’m secretly pleased that this makes me sound intellectual and all, but unfortunately my penchant for trashy fairytales is revealed by the last movie I saw (Stardust- it’s my fave!).

I grew up: With lots of pets.

When I was a kid I always wanted to be: A farmer.

My career goal is: A work in progress. I’m interested in either doing more research or working in science communication.

Why choose Sydney? You will work on a beautiful, vibrant campus with researchers working at the cutting-edge of their fields. What could be more inspiring?

More about me: I’m passionate about science and I love my research. It’s exciting to be exploring the unknown!
