Project Management Methodology
The undertaking of major ICT project initiatives within the University is a collaborative effort. Successful projects require the collaboration of management, operations, and suppliers of services. In order to improve collaboration and to be successful in the delivery of projects, the PMO has implemented a Project Management Methodology (PMM).
Project management is regarded as the application of modern management techniques and systems to the execution of a project from start to finish, that achieve planned project outcomes within schedule and budget constraints. Project management is also considered to be the process of reducing risk and uncertainty associated with project objectives. For ICT projects, often associated with high risks, the latter definition is of particular importance.
The PMO Project Management Methodology acknowledges the nature of ICT projects and it aims to provide a structured approach for identifying and resolving the risks associated with ICT projects. The Project Management Methodology is not prescriptive, but a guideline to manage projects using a standardised and consistent framework; it furthermore ensures that new and changing requirements are captured systematically over the duration of a project and that relevance of the delivery is maintained.
