Project Proposals
What is a project proposal?
The project proposal is the first step to initiate an ICT project at the University. The project proposal collects the necessary information about the project such as expected benefits, scope, estimated cost, and requirements in order to determine the feasibility of the project.
Funding requirements and sources are included in the project proposal with an indication of whether funding is being sought for the entire span of the project or for the initial start-up phase only.
Objectives of the project proposal
A project proposal is reviewed to assess various important attributes:
- The project’s fit with University strategic initiatives and goals;
- The project’s expected benefits, risk and impact on the organisation and the ICT infrastructure of the University;
- The project’s financial commitment and funding sources from the start-up stage through to production and operation;
- The project’s estimated resource requirements.
The outcome of the proposal process
A successful project proposal is included in the ICT capital budget and progresses to the next stage of the project management methodology: the development of a business case and a detailed project charter for the project.
