ICT Organisational Unit Strategy

As part of the overall Infrastructure Portfolio, an ICT Organisational Unit Strategy for 2006-2008 has been completed in draft form.

There are six high-level strategies, driven by the University's Strategic Directions. Each individual strategy is supported by a series of projects and initiatives. Input to this work has resulted from interactions with Deans and other senior University staff.

After further senior-level feedback has been obtained and the Strategy has been finalised, it is planned to present it at one or several staff forums.

ICT Service Index

An ICT Service Index for Staff is now available, together with a version for IT support staff.

These indexes are intended to help staff locate all the various web pages describing ICT services. They also give brief descriptions of services, in mouse-over link titles. It is hoped that the indexes will assist the University by giving an overview of the range of services provided by ICT.

Entries are listed in alphabetical order. But many items are also listed under a category, so that the indexes can be used to study groups of services, and other aspects of ICT activities. For example in the staff variant, try looking under "Email", "Phone system", or "UniKey accounts".

Hyperion news and availability monitoring

The May Hyperion Newsletter is available at the Hyperion Business Perfomance System web page on the Financial Services web site.

In particular, the newsletter contains information about and a graph showing availability of Hyperion during March and April. Work on recording availability automatically, using BMC Patrol software, is under way. This will allow measurements of "end-to-end" response time for Hyperion to be taken, and will provide statistical reports to aid assessment of whether the agreed provision of Hyperion services between 8am and midnight on weekdays, and throughout weekends, is being achieved. Use of Patrol may be extended later to monitor availability of other services.

Exchange mail and calendaring update

Further to a March news item, Exchange email and calendaring have been extended to a number of additional units, including: Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; initial Faculty of Veterinary Science group; Library senior staff; Marketing and Student Recruitment; and (imminently) Planning Support Office and the SSDU. An implementation schedule for rollout to further units is in preparation; this is expected to take the number of staff on central Exchange from the current 1300 to a total of over 3500 during 2006.

Please contact the Helpdesk if your unit has decided it would like to be added to the queue.

Sophos email filtering update

Further to an April news item, Sophos PureMessage filtering against email spam and viruses was extended to central UniKey email addresses on 8 May.

PeopleSoft project update

Further to a March news item, the May PeopleSoft Upgrade Newsletter and a Training and Access Special Edition Newsletter are now available at the PeopleSoft Upgrade project web page.
