Your Careers Centre
ICT has developed a new online application that helps the Careers Centre better manage services for employers and impending graduates, and cuts the workload involved.
The new system, developed by ICT’s web applications team, is called Your Careers Centre.
Students can log in to Your Careers Centre and view job ads and coming events, such as careers fairs or employer presentations. They can also book to attend interviews or presentations for employers looking for graduates in the disciplines that they are studying.
Employers can use Your Careers Centre to place job ads and monitor responses, as well as apply to attend coming events organised by the Careers Centre.
"More employers are placing more job ads under this new system," said Sascha Jenkins, Administrative Support Services Manager at the University of Sydney Careers Centre. "At the same time, it has decreased the workload of the administrative staff here at the Careers Centre."
The new application makes the work of Careers Centre staff significantly easier. As well as managing job ads and student applications, they can organise events, manage attendees and track invoices after the events are over all from within the application. The application enables them to provide a full range of services to prospective employers, from helping organise university-wide marketing campaigns and sponsorship down to details such as overhead projectors or catering for functions.
"The system is running really well," said Sascha. "People particularly like the Events Calendar function [which displays all events coming up]."
Previously, staff faced a system which was harder to use and did not cover all of the functionality that ICT created with Your Careers Centre, meaning that many regular manual tasks become less labour-intensive and easier to track. "It's made our lives easier, definitely," said Sascha.
New Relationship Manager

ICT would like to welcome Javier Orellana, who has joined the Relationship Management team. Javier has Applied Science degrees in chemistry and materials science, and an ITL Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education). Javier comes to ICT from a long career in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
Areas covered by members of the team will be partly redistributed. The new responsibilities are listed on the Relationship Management contacts page.
Wireless network extensions
Further wireless access points have been activated in Wesley College, Women's College, H.K. Ward Gymnasium, Arena Sports Centre, University Sports and Aquatic Centre (in both the Sports Bistro by the pool and the Mint cafe area), the Education building and the Physics building.
The trial of "wireless mobility" in ICT's H08 building, mentioned in an April news item, has been completed, and a number of issues have been identified and rectified. Preparations are now under way for roll-out to the rest of the wireless network on campus, providing continuous connections for moving wireless laptops.
