MCS Exchange Email

Background

MCS Exchange email is a new email system from Microsoft. This service is in the process of being rolled out to the departments of the University. At this stage, some departments do not have Exchange email accounts available to them.

If you are not certain whether you have an Exchange email account, please contact the Helpdesk for confirmation.

Accessing MCS Exchange

Exchange email can be accessed in two ways:

  • The University's Exchange Webmail service.
  • Via an email client program. This is only possible from computers that are connected to the University's network. The email clients that ICT support for connection to the Exchange email server are Microsoft 2003 (SP2) and Entourage 2004. Exchange can also be accessed via Evolution on Linux, but this is not supported by ICT Helpdesk Services.

Evolution 2.10

PLEASE NOTE: ICT Helpdesk Services will only support Linux with OWA access, Evolution is not supported. Any client related issues should be dealt with by your appropriate CSO.

Windows Mobile ActiveSync

This section describes how to configure a telephone device running Windows Mobile version 5 (smartphone) to connect and synchronise email, calendar, task and contact information with an MCS Exchange mailbox via a GPRS internet connection.
