Large file transfers

Emailing large files can cause a lot of data traffic – the Large File Transfer (or Upload) Service allows you to upload a file in one place and allow one (or more) people to access and download the file without taking up lots of bandwidth.

If you have to transfer large files (over 10 mb), please use the upload service provided below to prevent any session timeout issues.

Just logon (in the box below) with your UniKey and follow the guidelines.

Please remember that the file limit is 1 Gb

The Comment field is for infromation that you would like to note with the file.

The "When should the file expire?" field has a default of 3 days but can be changed from 1 day through to 14 days for when the file will automatically be removed from the system

The "Who do you want to be able to download this file?"
The default is:

  • Anyone who knows the access code
  • Anyone on SYDNET
  • USYD People
  • USYD Staff Only
  • USYD Students Only

NOTE: Large files uploads can take a long time so please be patient after you click submit. This can take many minutes depending on the size of the file.

After the upload

Once the file has been uploaded, you will recive an email to your USYD email account with the subject line:

File "Filename" Uploaded successfully.

The email body will contain the details of the file uploaded and will read similar to below:

Confirmation Email

To allow other users access to this file that you have uploaded then all you need to do is forward the email to anyone whom you would like access to the file to be given.

Currently:

  1. External people don’t have upload access currently. Although they are able to download.
  2. If someone uploads a file and chooses ‘staff only’ for being able to download, then contractors will not be able to access as these files will be locked it down to definitely ‘staff only’
