Internet costs

When using the University's Wireless Network, there is no cost for browsing the University's sites.

When visiting external sites, you can access 6Mb of external traffic per day for free. When you reach this limit the standard web charges of 2c/Mb apply for external web traffic while using the paid cache.

Costs for external Internet use are charged back to your UniKey (Extro) account.

Please note: The free cache allowance will not work through VPN using the login!10.

How much does using the VPN cost?

The cost of data traffic through Sydney University's VPN depends on two factors:

  1. Where the data comes from on the Internet (data origins), and
  2. Where the data is going to (data destinations).

The different categories of data origins and destinations are listed below.

Internet/web access

Please note: There has been a reduction in the pricing of internet/web traffic. All external traffic is now charged at 2.0c/Mb. Internal and cached traffic is still free.
